Weather today: Mostly cloudy, chance of rain
OK, OK, I’m getting an icky feeling this is becoming a blog for weirdos obsessed with their pets… (No offense to all you weirdos out there obsessed with your pets…some of whom live in my house) I know, I started it (the pet thing)..mea culpa.
I’m wondering why my fellow bloggers will post pet photos but not their own. Hmm shy maybe?
I’m rarely accused of being shy. We (La Gringa and El Latino) were at a dinner party Friday night where I was asked the usual question “How do you like France?” (After ten years it’s crazy to me that I’m supposed to answer this in one sentence…it’s like, ‘how do you like your husband?’ — do you want a daily average???) I’m not one of the expats who loves to hate it here, nor do I fall into the category of beret huggers. I’ve a slightly jaded, more positive than negative, yet reserving the right to complain -attitude.
So I gave the requisite raves about Paris and living in France. I made a teensy weensy complaint about the last 67 days of rain.
And the response? ”Well, NY weather is worse.”
Where I come from (New York), thems fighting words. So here it is…according to the BBC, (independent source, neither American or French, see how fair I am) Paris has a wopping 162 wet days per year on average. That’s nearly every other day! NY has 125. Not Yuma Arizona, but that’s another month+ of dry, frizz free days. NY has on average an extra 2.5 hours of sunlight per day! I’m sorry, I have light deficiency. That’s my beef here. I love Paris. But words to the wise: Bring an umbrella…just in case.

Fat is the New Thin
I feel for poor Snuggles and his forced diet. I think La Gringa should accept him as he is. Okay, maybe it’s not good for his heart, so a little dieting may be necessary from time to time, but the canine just loves his Golden Grahams. I mean, who doesn’t? Even without milk they’re good.
Dogs are not popular in my neck of the woods. Here, it’s cats and I have one. Acquired actually in Snuggles’ home town of Paris. Kitten has a name, but I rather enjoy calling him kitten. He’s rather thin by nature. Sorry, La Gringa. No obesity management necessary. But he has his faults. He’s an absolute wimp. After we were robbed one night, he hid under a bed for almost 2 days. A guard cat he isn’t.
But he’s thin! And, despite the title of this blog entry, and as La Gringa knows full well, THIN IS THE NEW THIN! Later. Whip.

200 grams
My favorite commenter has reminded me that it’s time to post. So post I shall. I spent the day at Marymount School’s book fair. I am a lover of books; reading them, writing them and maybe most of all, talking about them. It was especially sad for me to hear of the impending demise of another independent bookstore today (to remain nameless for the time being). This store though was interesting to me for the fact that the owner is not a book-person. There was no infatuation there. The little guys need to be owned by the cult members. The people that drink the kool-aid. I guess the news is not a giant surprise in fact. But in that vain I will soon post a list of the bookstores in Paris (which is getting shorter!). You never know when you might need a new book.
Now for the 200 grams. That’s not the weight of my latest missive. No. No. That is what Miss Snuggles lost since January on Obesity Management. She had a weigh-in yesterday at the vet. She’s down to 9.2kg. Her goal is 8.5 (to fly with the humans on Air France she needs to get down to 5 kg — basically skin and bones!) I’m thinking of getting her a gig as spokesdog for the brand. Watch out Valerie Bertinelli.
